August 4, 1983 Director Division of Operating Reactors Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Comrlssion Washington, D.C. 20555 Attn Mr. John F. Stolz, Chief, Operating Reactors Branch #4

Subject:

Docket No. 50-394, License No. R-121 Dismantling Plan: Radiation Survey of AGN-201 Reactor and Facility Area Since shipment of all the reactor fuel material and radioactive sources was recently completed in accordance with the previously approved Dismantling and Disposal Plan for this facility, the final phase prior to release of the premises for unrestricted use now concerns the enclosed radiation survey report.

f The report discloses measurements taken at specific locations throughout the reactor internals with wipe tests, along with walk-through readings of the floors and walls in that section of the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory Building designated as the Nuclear Reactor Facility. The Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering Department intends to use this space for dynamometer stands and general engineering laboratory experiments and briefing areas.

It is my understanding that after review and approval of this report by your Directorate, the USNRC kgional Office of Regulatory Operations will inspect the facilities to confirm our survey before granting approval for removal of the reactor or any of the associated equipment. Please advise Dr. Rosen (Tel 805/543-7549) or myself (805/546-1115 or 1137) of such time as you intend to inspect our facility and if you have any questions; the sunner quarter ends on Sept. 2,1983.
