This Interim Repo rt is in reference to the Main Control Board ~
ins tal la t ion details.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission was not ified by Duque sne Light Company on June 15, 1983, of this pot ent ial significant deficiency.
The evaluation of the integrity of the Main Control Board as installed is currently under review.
Pursuant to the requirements of 10CHL 5 0.5 5(e ), it is anticipated that a subsequent repo rt on this matter will be issued to Region I by September 9,1983.
An extension was requested on July 15, 1983, to submit this report by July 18, 1983.
The request was made to Mr. Lowell Tripp of Region I of the NRC via a phone call, and he found this extension acceptable.

7 BEAVER VALLEY POWER STATION - UNIT NO. 2 DUQUESNE LIGHT COMPANY Repo rt on Potent ial Significant Deficiency of the Main Control Board Seismic Mounting Details 1.0
SUMMARY
The as-installed mount ing/ hold-down details for the main control boards (MCB's) are not cons is t ent with the ap pr oved seismic quali fica t ion document at ion.
2.0 IMMEDIATE ACTION TAKEN Mr.
S. D. Hall of Duquesne Light Company reported this potential 10CFR 50.55(e) to Mr. Lowell Tripp of the NRC, Region I of fice on June 16, 1983.
An engineering evaluation of the as-built condition of the MCBs' hold-down details has be en initiated to identify whether the welds and welding details utilized are acceptable.
3.0 DESCRIPTION
OF THE DEFICIENCY The MCB's, which are presently installed on site, were originally tes ted at Wyle Laboratories in September 1977.
The nounting/ hold-down det ails utilized to at t ach the MC B's to the seismic tes t t ab le were s t anda rd s t itch welds using 1/4-inch fille t welds.
This ho ld-down method was t rans ferred to the SWEC electrical drawing no. 12241 RE27N Issue 1.
Due to numerous interferences with the structural embedments encountered shimming detail was req uired.
The during ins tallation of the MCB's, a
shimming detail was ad ded to the drawing (RE27 N-1B).
Howeve r, the original number and loca t ions of weld 3 were apparently abandoned fo r a lesser numbe r due to the nume rou s int erf e rences existing at the t ime.
As a res ult, the present nunbe r of welds is significantly les s than those identified in the approved Wyle test report.
4.0 ANALYSIS OF SAFETY IMPLICATION If the MCBs ' hold-down welds were to fail during a seismic eve nt, a pot ent ial exists fo r cutting safe ty-relat ed cab le or disabling safety-related electrical equipment.
After the engineering evaluation of the MCBs' ho ld-down welds is comple t ed, the safety implications, if any, will be addressed.
5.0 CORRECTIVE ACTION TO REMEDY DEFICIENCIES The correct ive act ion to be _ t ake n, if any, will be initiated af ter the engineering evaluation noted in Section 2 of this report is cumple t ed.
~
6.0 ADDITIONAL REPORTS The results of the engineering analysis of the as-built' condition of the welds is expected to be available by August 15, 19 83.
An additional repo rt on this issue will be submitted by September 9,1983.
