Dear Mr. Collins:
River Bend Station Unit 1 Docket No. 50-458 Final Report /DR-115 On May 10, 1983, Gulf States Utilities Company (GSU) notified Region IV of a condition potentially reportable under 10CFR50.55(e) concerning tackwelding of heavy hex nuts after.a design change prohibited further tackwelding and specified the use of. locknuts (DR-115). GSU subsequently issued an Interim Report dated June 9,.1983.
It was demonstrated that the tackwelding of heavy hex nuts was an isolated occurrence.
Structural examination revealed that tackwelding is' adequate to perform its intended function.
GSU concludes that had this condition remained uncorrected, it would not have adversely affected the safe operations of' the plant and is therefore not

reportable under 10CFR50.55(e). This concludes GSU's response on this subject.
