TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY CH ATTANOOGA. TENNESSEE 37401 400 Chestnut Street Tower II July 8, 1983 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region II ATTN: James P. O'Reilly, Regional Administrator 101 Marietta Street, NW, Suite 2900 Atlanta, Georgia 30303
Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
OFFICE OF INSPECTION AND ENFORCEMENT BULLETIN 80 RII:JP0 50-259, -260, -296 - BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT This letter is to inform you that all 20 jet pump beam holddown bolt assemblies on Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant unit 1 will be replaced with improved assemblies during the current cycle 5 outage. The inspections required by IE Bulletin 80-07 will, therefore,' not be performed this outage.
General Electric Company report NEDE-24362-1 shows that the service life of the improved assemblies will exceed the remaining service life of Browns Ferry unit 1.
Because of this we do not consider IE Bulletin 80-07 applicable to unit 1 any longer. Therefore, we will discontinue performing the inspection required by that bulletin. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please call Jim Domer at FTS 858-2725.
To the best of my knowledge, I declare the statements contained herein are complete and true.
Very truly yours, TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY L. M. Mills, Manager Nuclear Licensing cc: Office of Inspection and Enforcement U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Division of Reactor Operations Inspection Washington, D.C.
