July 13,1983' REFUELING INFORMATION REQUEST

1. Name of Facility: Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, Unit No.1

2. Scheduled date for next Refueling Shutdown: September 30.1983

3. Scheduled date for restart following refueling: December 1,1983 4.- Will refueling or resumption of operation thereafter require a technical specification change or other license amendment?

Resumption of operation after refueling will require changes to Technical Specifications. The changes will be such as to allow operation of the plant with a fresh reload batch and reshuffled core.

5. Scheduled date(s) for submitting proposed licensing action and supporting information.

September 1,1983

6. Important licensing considerations associated with the refueling.

Reload fuel will be similar to that reload fuel inserted into the previous cycle.

7. The number of fuel assemblies (a) in the core and (b) in the spent fuel storage pool.

(a) 217 (b) 732 Spent Fuel Pools are common to Units 1 and 2

, 8. The present licensed spent fuel pool storage capacity and the size of any increase in licensed storage capacity that has been requested or is planned, in number of fuel assemblies.

SUMMARY

OF UNIT I OPERATING EXPERIENCE JUNE 1983 6/1 At the beginning of this reporting period, Unit I was operating at 857 MWe with the reactor at 100% power.

6/6 The reactor was tripped at 1945 due to the f ailure of II A Reactor Coolant Pump Motor Surge Suppressor.

6/9 Resumed full load operation (852 MWe) at 0200.

6/13 At 0002 load was decreased to 654 MWe to locate and repair leaks in ISB Feedwater Heater.

6/18 At 1755 reduced reactor power due to loss of secondary Control Element Assembly (CEA) position indication. At 1955 CEA position indication was returned to servics.. Load was increased to 646 MWe at 2020.

6/19 At 2015 ISB Feedwater Heater was placed in service. Resumed full load operation (862 MWei at 2300.

6/21 At 0120 load was decreased to 758 MWe to clean condenser water boxes. Load was increased to capacity (862 MWe) at 0540.

6/22 At 2200 load was decreased to 764 MWe to clean condenser water boxes.

6/23 Load was increased to capacity (860 MWe) at 0700.

6/30 At the end of this reporting period, Unit I was operating at 858 MWe with the reactor at 100% power.

SUMMARY

OF UNIT 2 OPERATING EXPERIENCE l JUNE 1983 1

6/1 At the beginning of this reporting period, Unit 2 was operating at 835 MWe with the reactor at 100% power.

6/12 Decreased load to 730 MWe at 0500 to inspect Amertap Screens. Load was increased to capacity (835 MWe) at 1800.

6/19 Decreased load to 743 MWe at 0017 following the trip of 26 Circulating Water Pump. Atter returning 26 Circulating Water Pump to service, load was increased to capacity (841 MWe) at 0645.

6/25 At 2330 load was decreased to 730 MWe to clean condenser water boxes.

6/26 Load was increased to capacity (860 MWe) at 0815.

6/30 At the end of this reporting period, Unit 2 was operating at 830 MWe with the reactor at 100% power.
