l In accordance with the provisions of 10 CFR Parts 50.59 and 50.90 we are enclosing 40 copies of a requested amendment to license DPR-33 to change the technical specifications of Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant unit 1 (enclosure 1).

The enclosed specifications are needed for unit 1 reload 5 cycle 6 operation. The specifications also reflect plant modifications being performed during the refueling outage. Additional description and justification of the proposed changes is enclosed (enclosure

Included as justification is the General Electric Supplemental Reload l

Licensing Submittal for Browns Ferry Unit 1 Reload 5 (22A8559, May 1983).

1 Browns Ferry unit 1 is currently in the cycle 5 refueling and major maintenance outage. Startup is projected for October 6, 1983 Approval of 1

the enclosed specifications is, therefore, needed by September 29, 1983 l

This requested amendment has been evaluated pursuant to 10 CFR Part 50.92 and no significant hazards considerations are involved (enclosure 3).

These proposed technical specifications are being reviewed concurrently by the TVA Nuclear Safety Review Board for Browns Ferry.

t In accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR Part 170.22, we have determined i

this proposed amendment to be Class III for unit 1.

This classification is based on the fact that the proposed amendment involves a single safety issue I

which does not involve a significant hazard consideration for unit 1.

The remittance for $4,000 is being wired to the NRC, Attention:

Licensing Fee Management Branch.
