Dente to D.G. Eisenhut, " Schedule for Submittals in Response to NRC Generic Letter 83-28," September 6, 1983, BWROG 83-29

Dear Mr. Denton:

This letter requests an extension of time for our submittal in re-sponse to NRC Generic Letter 83 - 28 (Reference 1) for the Shoreham Nuclear Power Station - Unit 1.

Long Island Lighting Company is a member of the BWR Owners' Group (BWROG) and we have endorsed the BWROG response (Reterence 2) to NRC Generic Letter.

We are participating in the Group's generic evaluation and, in order to effectively utilize this BWROG effort, a time extension is necessary.

In parallel with the BWROG program, which will result in the development of certain generic information and BWROG-recommended guidelines, LILCO is assessing the Shoreham capabilities with respect to the NRC-proposed actions re;ulting from the Salem event.

After completion of the BWROG-developed guidelines for assessing plant capabilities in response to Reference 1, we will provide the NRC with the requested documentation for the Shoreham assessment which incorporates these guidelines and a schedule for program implementation.

Our response will be provided by February 29, 1984.
