57300, JOB E-5590, FILE NO. 956C, M-45 This letter constitutes an interim report concerning the subject condition initially reported to the Commission on April 30, 1982 as a potentially reportable deficiency under 10CFR50. 55 (e).
Since our last report, QA-2268, dated February 23, 1983, Task II of the Quality Confirmation Program (QCP) has continued the review of The Henry J.
Kaiser Company (HJK) welder qualifications performed prior to March 15, 1982.
HJK has completed its review of approximately 2500 welders' qualification records and has generated 472 Noncomformance Reports (NR's) identifying various deficiencies (e.g.,
line throughs, use of white out, conflicting and insufficient information).
To date, QCP Task II has reviewed approximately 365 of the 2500 welders' qualification records.
Additionally, a program is being developed to generate a computer data base to assist in the identification of deficiencies in terms of welder qualification for individual production welds.

A follow-up report providing the status of the welder qualification review program will be submitted by October 10, 1983.
We trust the above will be found acceptable as an interim report under 10CFR50.55(e).
