g Docket No. 50-289 N

m Comment on the Federal Register Notice of May 31, 1983 concerning the possible issuance of an amendment to the operating Itcense of IMI-1 as a result of the steam generator repairs --

I strongly urge the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to order a full hearing on the adequacy and the safety of the extensive repairs made to the steam generator at IMI-1.

The proposed determination by the Commission that these repairs do not involve a "significant hazards consideration" fly in the face of common sense and the intent of Congress.

The alleged repai.r of 20,000 of the 31,000 steam tubes in the generator by means of a radical. process which has never been employed on any scale of this magnitude at a nuclear facility certainly does not return the steam generator to the same original condiition as

existed before the corrosion problem.

Very truly yours, N
