Dear Mr. Keppler:
Reference (a) Action Item 5 requested that the Commonwealth Edison Company provide, within ninety (90) days of completion of Action Item 3, a written report of inspection results.
We have completed Action Item 3 for Quad Cities Unit 1.
The Attachment to this letter provides the results of our inspection.
To the best of my knowledge and belief, the statements contained in the Attachment are true and correct.
In some respects, these statements are not based on my personal knowledge but upon information furnished by other Commonwealth Edison employees, consultants and contractors.
Such information has been reviewed in accordance with Company practice and I believe it to be reliable.

,.,s ATTACHMENT COMMONWEALTH EDISON COMPANY Ninety (90) Day Response To IE Bulletin No. 83-03 Action Item 5 for Quad Cities Unit 1, NRC Docket No. 50-254 i
As required by Reference (a) the Quad Cities Unit 1 Diesel Generator Cooling Water Pump (DGCWP) discharge check valve 1-3999-86 was inspected during a maintenance outage on May 21, 1983.
The valve was found free to swing to fully open and fully closed positions, but the pin area was found to be worn.
A new check valve and gaskets were installed.
The DGCWP was tested for operability on the same day.
