Subject:

Final Report of 10CFR50.55(e) Item on Post-IOCA Containment Gas Monitoring Systems (#95)

Dear Mr. Keppler:

This is Detroit Edison's final report involving Post-IOCA Containment Gas Monitoring Systems. This its was originally reported to Mr. R. Knop of NRC Region III by Detroit Edison's'Mr. W.E. Miller, Jr., Supervisor - Construc-tion Quality Assurance, on May 24, 1983.

A 10CFR Par' 21 notification was received frm Cmsip, Inc., manufacturer of the systems in question. Calculations had been rnade regarding the effect of fission-fragment iodine (which may be present in the containment atmosphere after IOCA with core meltdown) on the catalyst used in the analyzer cell of Cmsip, Inc., Models K-III and K-IV Post-IOCA Containment Gas Monitoring Systems.

Although Detroit Edison has Cmsip equignent, a General Electric designed systmi is being utilized for Post-IOCA Containment Gas Monitoring. The potential problem indicated in the 10CFR Part 21 does not exist at Fermi 2, making this its non-reportable per 10CFR 50.55(e) requirements.

If you have questions concerning this matter, please contact Mr. G.M.

Trahey, Assistant Director - Project Olnlity Assurance.

, Very truly yours,
