l Pursuant to your secretary's request this moming, I placed calls to counsel for the other l
active participants in these proceedings to gain their views on the proposal outlined in my July l
15 letter to the Board. I was able to reach counsel for the NRC Staff, Mitti Young, and for the lang Island Power Authority, Carl Schenker. Neither of them had any objection to combining i
l the preh,:aring conferences now scheduled for July 23 and 30 into one s.::ssion on July 30.

Counsel for Shoreham-Wading River Central School District and Scientists and Engineers l
for Secure Energy, James McGranery, was unavailable when I ca!!ed, so I left a detailed message with his secretary and requested that he return my call. When I called again later in the morning, Mr. McGranery informed me that he had answered my telephone inquiry by means i
of a letter directly to the Board. I have since received a faxed letter from him opposing the proposal I submitted yesterday.
LILCO will appear at the Board's convenience. Given the inevitability of four-hour round trips between Richmond and Washington for any session, LILCO would prefer, if all is otherwise equal, to avoid an unnecessary second round-trip.
