Dear Mr. Denton:
In the Matter of the
)
Docket Nos. 50-259 Tennessee Valley Authority
)
50-260 50-296 By my letter to you dated July 1, 1983, we informed you that the feedwater low-flow controller and reactor water cleanup system crosatie modification detailed in NUREG-0619 are not required for the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant. Enclosed is the report detailing the Browns Ferry specific analysis performed by NUTECH (enclosure 1).
Based on the analysis we have formulated an overall plan for final resolution of the feedwater nozzle cracking problem and continued monitoring of the operational condition of the nozzles to ensure nozzle integrity over the remaining life of the Browns Ferry units. This plan is detailed in enclosure 2 for each of the NUREG-0619 items regarding feedwater nozzle cracking.
In the plan described in enclosure 2, we propose an alternative to the dye-penetrant examination interval of NUREG-0619 Justification for that alternative is included. We request that the NRC staff review the proposed alternative and formally respond to TVA in writing.
Very truly yours, TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY a
