STATUS OF RECOMMENDATIONS: AUDIT OF NRCS SIGNIFICANCE DETERMINATION PROCESS FOR REACTOR SAFETY (OIG-16-A-21)
REFERENCE:
DIRECTOR OF THE OFFICE OF NUCLEAR REACTOR REGULATION MEMORANDUM DATED JANUARY 22, 2020 Attached is the Office of the Inspector Generals (OIG) analysis and status of recommendations as discussed in the agencys response dated January 22, 2020.
Based on this response, recommendation 2 is now closed. Recommendations 1, 3, and 4 were previously closed. All recommendations are now closed and no further actions are necessary.

Audit Report AUDIT OF NRCS Significance Determination Process for Reactor Safety OIG-16-A-21 Status of Recommendations Recommendation 2: Clarify IMC 0612 Appendix B issue screening questions, so that they are readily understood and easily applied.
Agency Response Dated January 22, 2020: Update The Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation engaged with the regions to revise IMC 0612 to improve the issue screening guidance. Specifically, a working group was created to revise Appendix B: Additional Issue Screening Guidance and Appendix E: Example of Minor Issues. Clarifying guidance to the screening questions was added and the examples were improved by relating each minor or more than minor answer to a screening question. After the working group drafted the revised documents, they were sent out for comment to the regions and other headquarters offices. Comments received from staff were incorporated in the final documents or otherwise addressed.
IMC 0612, IMC 0612 Appendix B, and IMC 0612 Appendix E were issued on December. 23, 2019, with an effective date of January 1, 2020.
