Parsons-Peebles/ Electric Products Division has notified Power Systems that a possible problem exists with the generator supplied under the above referenced purchase orders.

The problem was found to be wear of the generator shaft insulation material under the inner race of the cylindrical roller bearing. The wear allowed the shaft to drop down and rub the bearing inner and outer oil seals (bearing cover). The insulation wear was caused by the turning or slipping of the inner bearing race.

The generator manufacturer is presently studying the problem to determine whether a generic defect exists and what corrective action may be required.

We will advise you as soon as we receive the report.

Power Systems Division as well as TVA have notified the NRC in accordance with 10CFR21.

Very truly yours, POWER SYSTEMS A SEN DIVISION Ed Martin Manager-Contracts EM/voa
