LaSalle County Station, Units 1 and 2 NRC Docket Nos. 50-373/and 50-374 Dear Mr. Parra This is to inform you of the intent on the part of Ceaumonwealth Edison to make use of ASME Code Case N-240 approved March 19, 1979 to exempt certain piping subject to the require-monts of the ASME Code from hydrostatic testing.

The intended applications of this Code Case for LaSalle County Station are, delineated in the attaciument to this letter.

Also included as an attactunent is a copy of Code Case N-240.

This Code Case was reviewed and accepted without comunent by the NRC representatives to the ASME Council (Mr. R. J.

O Bosnak and G. A. Arlotto) and it is hoped will be acknowledged by the Staff as acceptable for inanediate use.

Please advise us as soon as possible if you have any questions on this case or its intended applications.

Should any questions exist, we request that a meeting be scheduled isenediately so that we may address and resolve your concerns.

It is our hope that you will review this issue as soon as possible so that the LaSalle County review schedule is not adversely affected.

Code Case N-240 is to be applied to the following systems:

i DG & HP Diesel engine exhaust lines to atmosphere RH, DG, Suction and discharge from the CSCS cooling HP, FC pond OG, VG Discharge lines from the off-gas and stand-by-gas treatment systems to the vent stack FC Various spargers, drain lines, and vents going into and from spent fuel pool, reactor O

well, transfer canal, and shipping cask wash down area.

This piping has been designed and installed to ASME Section III Code.

Each line is eithar up or down stream of an isolation valve and an open-ended line that is very difficult if not impossible to meet all hydrostatic test requirements of the Section III Code.
