57300, JOB E-5590, FILE NO. 956C, M-24 This letter constitutes an interim report concerning the subject deficiency initially reported to the Commission on October 14, 1980 under the requirements of 10CFR50.55 (e).
Our previous report, LOZ-83-0031, dated May 13, 1983 indicated that Sargent & Lundy (S&L) had requested American Warming and Ventilating Co. (AWV) to reanalyze two (2) of the thirteen (13) damper assemblies (IVG0lYA and IVG0lYB).
This report is now expected to be completed by September 15, 1983.
S&L has been authorized to proceed with preparing an Engineering Change Request (ECR) to modify the nine (9) damper assemblies which would be overstressed even with AWV proposed modifications, as a result of MK II Containment dynamic loading cases.
The modifications will consist of replacing the AWV dampers with new dampers; mounting the existing ITT General Control damper actuators on the new dampers; seismically qualifying each damper / actuator assembly; and providing additional supports as required.
Af ter approval of the ECR, S&L will complete the engineering of the modifications.
Necessary materials and equipment will then be procured.
All field work on the damper assembly modifications is contingent upon the lif ting or relaxation of the NRC November 12, 1982 " Order to Show Cause and Order Immediately Suspending Construction".
Design modifications to the remaining four (4) assemblies will be finalized after S&L has approved the requested AWV report h
