ZIMMER NUCLEAR PONER STATION - UNIT 1 10CFR50. 55 (e) , ITEM M-46, FAILURE OF ESSENTIAL HVAC TURNING VANES W.O. 57300, JOB E-5590, FILE NO. 956C, M-46 This letter constitutes an interim report concerning the subject deficiency initially reported on May 10, 1982 to the Commission under the requirements of 10CFR50.55(e).

Since our previous report, QA-2210, dated January 11, 1983, no additional turning vane failures have been discovered. The test procedure to certify the design adequacy of the turning l

vanes in essential HVAC systems has been developed and is being l reviewed for approval.

Scheduling and implementation of the above test procedure and completion of any corrective action is contingent upon the i

release of the NRC November 12, 1982, " Order to Show Cause and Order Immediately Suspending Construction". A follow-up report will be submitted by August 31, 1983.
