" Reactor Vessel Material Surveillance Program Requirements,"

Wisconsin Electric Power Company-(Licensee).hereby reports the withdrawal of the fifth surveillance capsule (Capsulo P) from the Point Beach Nuclear Flant (PBJP), Unit 1.

The surveillance capsule was removed from its holder on the reactor vessel thermal shield on April 9, 1994.

10 CFR 50 Appendix H opecifies that reactor vessel surveillance programs be established and-conducted in accordance with ASTM E 185-82.

This-ASTM standard provides the minimum requirements for reactor vessel surveillance programs, including requirements for testing.

In accordance with ASTM E 185-82, PBNP Unit 1 is required to withdraw a minimum of five surveillance capsules; four over the life of the vessal and the fifth at the end of life (EOL) or at an accumulated fluence equivalent to one to.two times the EOL vessel fluence.

The materials in the first four capsules must be tested, but the ASTM standard allows the fifth-capsule to be hold without testing following removal.

Surveillance Capsule P is the fifth capsula to be withdrawn from PBNP Unit 1.
