Dear Mr. Keppler:

This is Detroit Edison's final report on the reactor node switch failure problem. This itan was originally reported to Mr. H. Wescott of NRC Region III by Detroit Edison's Mr. H.A. Walker, Supervisor - Construction Quality Assurance, on July 1, 1982.

At that time, the switch was frozen in one position, and could not be placed in other modo selections. In addition, scme of the contacts would not main-tain their position during operation. For example, a "normally open" con-tact for the node selection would incorrectly remain closed when the switch was moved from one position to another position.

The switch handle has been replaced, under the direction of Cencral Electric, and found acceptable. All documentation relating to the replacement switch handle has been reviewed, and determined to be acceptable. Nonconformance Reports Nos.82-220 and 82-118 have been closed. Therefore, this item is ready for NRC review and subsequent closure.
