Subject:
Report of Potential 10CFR50.55(e) Item on Structural Steel Sliding Connections (#92)
Dear Mr. Keppler:
On March 28, 1983, Detroit Edison's Mr. D. Ferencz, Acting Supervisor - Con-struction Quality Assurance, telephoned Mr. H. Wescott of NRC Region III to report on a potential problem with structural steel sliding connections at the Fermi 2 site.
One (1) of four (4) nuts on a beam in the drywell was loose, and approxi-mately four (4) of eighteen (18) nuts examined on steam tunnel beams were 1cose. Construction records did not indicate, with reasonable assurance, that the nuts were tightened to their proper values.
On April 6,1983, a Deviation Disposition Request (#MP-11006) was initiated to address these deviations. Edison Engineering is currently evaluating the deviations for determining the corrective action to be taken.
Another report on this item, either interim or final, will be sont when fur-ther information is available. If you have questions concerning this matter, please contact Mr. G.M. Trahey, Assistant Director - Project Quality Assur-ance.
Very truly yours,
- U
