57300, JOB E-5590, FILE NO. 956C, E-16 This letter constitutes an interim report concerning the subject condition reported under the requirements of 10CFR50.55(e).
Our last report on this matter was submitted on February 18, 1983.
our last response stated the scope of corrective actions, previously limited to HFA relays manufactured between 1974 and
.1979 (clear or beige bobbins) had been expanded to cover all HFA relays manufactured prior to 1979.
The scope was changed because three (3) cracked coil bobbins were discovered during a re-inspection of a sample of relays manufactured prior to 1974 (black bobbins).
Due to'the change in scope, the corrective actions have been re-evaluated.and revised.
All HFA relays in safety related NSSS systems will be modified by replacing the existing coils with replacement coils made of-Tefzel.
The HFA relays in safety related BOP systems will be re, laced since the manner in which the relay is mounted precludes coil replacement without determinating leads and dismounting the relay.
A Construction Work Authorization Request (CWAR) is being'

prepared to perform'the work for each of the proposed corrective actions.
Completion of the replacement of the affected items is contingent upon the HRC's approval of these CWAR's.
A follow-dp report will be submitted on June 30, 1983.
