Dear Mr. Denton:
RE:
WM. II. ZIMMER NUCLEAR POWER STATION -
UNIT 1 - ENVIRONMENTAL QUALIFICATION OF SAFETY-RELATED ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT IN A HARSH ENVIRONMENT This is in reply to the NRC letter of March 24, 1983 from Mr.
B. J. Youngblood, Chief Licensing Branch No.
1, Division of Licensing.
Marathon 1600 series terminal blocks are used in harsh environments in cafety-related systems at the Zimmer Plant.
Marathon has been contacted and has verified that the 6000 series terminal blocks were renumbered to 1600 series for convenience of computer identification and they, are physically and dimen-sionally identical.
From the information we have received regarding the failure of these blocks, it appears that the parameters of the test were more severe than those postulated for the ZPS outside
' containment environment.
A test plan is-being prepared to test the terminal blocks to the outside containment environment conditions postulated for ZPS.
Successful completion of this test will qualify the terminal blocks for outside containment applications.
The test is scheduled to be completed by December 31, 1983.
A review of all safety-related terminal blocks inside containment will be performed.
Any unqualified safety-related terminal blocks identified inside containment will ol go 8304190467 E30414 PDR ADOCK 05000350 A
