Mendonca, Senior Project Manager Non-Power Reactors, Decommissioning and Environmental Project Directorate Division of Advanced Reactors and Special Piojects Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington DC 20555
Dear Mr. Mendonca:
SUBJ: PLANS FOR FUNDING letwM'41 SS IONI NG In response to your letter of 19 February 1991, it is estimated that decommis-sioning the reactor will cost approximately Sll,000.00. This does not include post-decommissioning disposal of the residual structure. The estimated cost breakdown is shown in the table.
Professional time $ 3 , :'10 Technician time 1,455 Machiitist time 96 Materials & Supplies 560 Fuel Shipment 500 Waste Disposal 3,750 Contingencies 1,399 ESTIMATED TOTAL COST $11,000 Professional and technician time will be provided by the Radiation Safety Of fice, which consists of the RSO and one technician, The projected time amounts to ap-proximately 10% of one year's net usable time for each of these individuals. The Radiation Safety Of fice is budgeted for the cost of disposal of all radioactive waste generated on the campus; these costs are not passed through to the waste generators. The tabulated non-labor costs approximate 40% of the annual radwaste disposal budget. I have been assured that other university funds will be used to au-a::nt the radwaste disposal line, if necessary, in order to accomraodate non-labor reactor disposal costs, (f,incerety, f /
