Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant Equipment Out of Service Comitment During Diesel Generator Maintenance By letter dated February 28, 1991, Region II forwarded NRC Inspection Report Nos. 50-348/90-36 and 50-364/90-36. The cover letter states in part, "In a telephone conversation February 15, 1991, between Mr. D. Morey of your staff and Mr. F. Cantrell of this office, Mr. Morey comitted that
-Farley would not conduct any surveillance or scheduled maintenance on the opposite train of safety equipment when the emergency power supply to the other train is out of. service, and this comitment will remain in effect until this item is resolved.
If your understanding of this matter is different, please contact us promptly."
The above statement is not entirely correct and in a telephone conversation March 13,.-1991, between Mr.-D. Varelli and Mr. D. Morey, this description of the comitment was clarified and corrected. The comitment was that-until this issue is resolved, Alabama Power Company will not intentionally remove from service opposite train safety equipment while conducting annual maintenance on a diesel in the other train. The clarification being.

provided is that surveillances and maintenance do exist which do not result in removing equipment from service-and thus can be conducted on components in the opposite train from a diesel undergoing annual maintenance.

varelli agreed with this clarification.
