SUMMARY

SEPTEMilER, 1990 UNIT TWO The unit began the month operating at 100% full power (l'P).

On September 28th at 2001 hours0.0232 days <br />0.556 hours <br />0.00331 weeks <br />7.613805e-4 months <br />, a power reduction to 70% was commenced at the system dispatcher's request.

During the power hold window, plans were to clean the main condenser's inlet waterboxes in order to regain megawatts lost due to tubesheet fouling.

In onder to perform the cleaning, one of the circulat ing water pumps was required to be shut of f.

While recoverin;; f rom these activities, at 81% l'P, the turbine tripped (Feb. 28 at 2143 hours0.0248 days <br />0.595 hours <br />0.00354 weeks <br />8.154115e-4 months <br />) on low l

vacuum due to a circulating water pump's motor operated discharge valve failing to shut. The valve failed to shut because of a set screw backing out which released the key on the pinion gear. To prevent the recurrence of this type of failure on the circulating water pumps the key was tapped to assist the set screw in holding the key in place.

After repairing the dischange valve and cleaning the inlet waterboxes, the unit was placed back on-line on September 29th at 2125 hours0.0246 days <br />0.59 hours <br />0.00351 weeks <br />8.085625e-4 months <br />.

The unit wan released from the power reduction on September 30th at 0516 hours0.00597 days <br />0.143 hours <br />8.531746e-4 weeks <br />1.96338e-4 months <br />.

The unit attained 1001 power on September 30th at 1017 hours0.0118 days <br />0.283 hours <br />0.00168 weeks <br />3.869685e-4 months <br /> and remained at.
