Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (TMI-1)
Operating License No. DPR-50 Docket No. 50-289 Clad Swell and Rupture Model Our letter of November 1, 1982 (5211-82-257) stated that GPU Nuclear would submit the results of supplemental ECCS analyses incorporating bounding cladding models based on NUREG 0630 by March, 1983. These calculations have been completed by our vendor (B&W) and received by us.
However, our review of the B&W report raised several questions that require further GPUN and B&W evaluation.
GPUN believes it is necessary to delay submittal until these evaluations are completed. We also feel that there is a need to develop a consistent B&W Owners Group position on this issue which will be discussed at an April meeting of the B&W Owners Group Analysis Committee.
Based on these considerations, GPUN plans to submit the supplemental ECCS analysis by May 15, 1983.
Since TMI-l remains shutdown per NRC Order and startup is not expected before July 1983, there will be sufficient time for any revisions to Technical Specifications or operating limits required by the implementation of NUREG 0630 models.
