License No. DPR 28(Docket No. 50 271)
Dear Mr. Conte:
Subject:
1990 License Operator Requalification Program. Dynamic Simulator Re examination The purpose of this letter is to formally request NRC re examination of
- four Individuals who were unsuccessful in passing the 1990 dynamic simulator
. exam.
We understand that, non.1 ally,d would therefore take place in Aug the dates-for this re-examination would follow the national exam schedule an However, as we discussed with you on April 5 we feel that there are extenuating circumstances that justify an earlier date, in addition it is our desire to allow one of-our SRO's who is currently assuming a Shlft Supervisor position to resume his role in the Career Development program. Further, we would like to have all licenses restored to provide us with maximum scheduling flexibility during the summer high vacation period. These objectives, in our opinion, are adequate justification to request an expedited re examination of the individuals-mentioned above.
We propose May 14 and 15 for the validation of the simulator scenario and the acministration of the dynamic simulator exam.

VERMONT YANKEE NUCLEAR POWER CORPOT4ATION U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission April 8,1991-Page 2 If this schedule is agreeable, we also propose that the simulator re exam consist of two validated scenarlos (which we will prepare and forward to you for approval prior to the exam), that the two SROs who individually failed rotate in the SS and SCRO positions for each scenario, and that the other two staff crew SRO license holders that failed from a crew-perspective remain in their RO positions' for - both scenarios.
We would, of course, plan to have a Shift Engineer and a Communicator participate in the exam as part of the crew.
At your earliest convenience, would you please let us know if you are able to accommodate our request.
Also, if you have an not hesitate to contact our Training Manager, Randall W.y questions please do Spinney.
o Very truly yours, i
