Re: Letter Dated May 6,1994 Reply to Notice of Violation Inspection Report No. 50-83/94-01
~ In our reply to Inspection Report No. 50-83/94-01 citing the UFTR facility for a Severity Level IV violation for failure to comply with 10 CFR 20.1703, Subpart H, " Respiratory' Protection and Controls to Restrict Internal Exposure in Restricted Areas," we committed to ,
having a written policy statement for the UFTR Respiratory Protection Program approved with full compliance including documented review and approval of the policy achieved by ;
August 31,1994. Unfortunately, vacations and various other facility and personnel commitments have caused a delay iii approving and implementing the written policy statement despite our best efforts. This fact was transmitted to Mr. Craig Bassett of Region II in a conversation on August 26,1994.
A draft of the committed UFTR Respiratory Protection Program was distributed for review at our latest Reactor Safety Review Subcommittee (RSRS) meeting on August 25,1994. We are currently recching comments and corrections on the draft program. Plans are to ,
incorporate these changes prior the next RSRS meeting scheduled for September 29,1994.

The written policy statement for the UFTR Respiratory Protection Program will then be approved and full compliance including documented review and approval of the policy achieved by September 30,1994. We do not expect to encounter any further delays.
