Dear Sir:

As required by EPA Permit No. 0025615, the following information is provided in regards to a reportable occurrence at Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit #1:

Discharge 302, sewage treatment plant effluent, was out of specification in fecal coliform (484 colonics/100 ml) on a sample taken February 25, 1983.

The above out-of-specification parameter was caused by an abnormally high amount of solids floating on the chlorine contact tank rendering the chlorine addition ineffective.

The effluent will be hand chlorinated to supplement normal chlorination until the solids are pumped from the chlorine contact tank. A 71 censed sanitary waste hauler has been contracted to remove the sludge from the chlorine contact tank.

Discharge 013, BVPS Unit #2 sewage treatment plant effluent, was out-of-specification in fecal coliform (TNTC,

,too numerous to count) on a sample taken February 25, 1983.

The above out-of-specification parameter was caused by underchlorination of the effluent. The chlorine supply for the normal chlorination system had been destroyed by a fire at the storage facility; hand chlorination of the effluent was started immediately, but was ineffective. The chlorin-ation system was returned to normal February 28, 1983.
