ILLINOIS LOPRA REACTOR - ANNUAL REPORT August 1,1993 - July 31,1994 Facility License R-117

1. SUMM ARY OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE The reactor was in operation a total of 11.5 hours5.787037e-5 days
0.00139 hours
8.267196e-6 weeks
1.9025e-6 months
during the period. This includes time when the reactor was operated for surveillances where the reactor was not actually critical The total operating time for the period was due to fulfilling surveillance requirements.

II. TABULATION OF OPERATIONS Surveillances 11.5 hours5.787037e-5 days
0.00139 hours
8.267196e-6 weeks
1.9025e-6 months
flours Critical

 • and Energy 9.7 hours8.101852e-5 days
0.00194 hours
1.157407e-5 weeks
2.6635e-6 months
0.0049 Mw-hrs l
 • This includes time where the reactor was sub-critical during the control rod calibration. Virtually all of the ,

energy generated was due to the power calibration surveillance.

Ill. EMERGENCY SilUTDOWNS AND INADVERTENT SCRAMS One inadvertant scram occurred during the period initiated by the gamma mo litor. During the daily checklist the scrarn setting on the monitor is downscaled to initiate a scram, however in this instance the operator failed to return the scram setpoint to normal and hence scrammed the reactor on startup.

IV. M AINTENANCE A significant amount of effort was spent on repairs to the Keithley microammeter and the linear power strip chart recorder.

V. CONDITIONS UNDER SECTION 50.59 OF 10CFR50 There were no changes to procedures, new experiments, or 50.59 reviews performed during the reporting period.

VI., Vll., Vill. RADIOACTIVE RELEASE / RADIATION EXPOSURE Because of the low power and infrequent use of the LOPRA, its operation does not contribute to the release of eftluents. Personnel radiation exposures for the laboratory are given in the Annual Report for the Advanced TRIGA Reactor, License No R-IIS, Docket No. 50-151, dated February 4,1994.
