Enclosure Serial No. 164 RESPONSE TO IEB 83-03 SURRY POWER STATION In response to IEB 83-03 Surry Power Station does not have service water or any outside water supplies (fire water or domestic water) to its three (3)

Emergency Diesel Generators (EDGs).

All three run with a closed loop water system cooled by ambient air.

Item One (1)

The Station Pump and Valve In-Service Test Program required by Section XI of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code contains no valves in the Emergency Diesel Generator cooling water system.

Additionally there are no valves in the flow path of cooling water.for the EDG.

This is due to the fact that the cooling system is a closed loop water system cooled by an air to water radiator.

Item Two (2)

No mcdifications are needed to the IST Program for the reasons stated in the response to Item One.

Item Three (3)

Not applicable - there are no valves to be tested, Item Three (3) can be considered closed.

Item Four (4)

There are no valves in the EDG Cooling System.

Item Five (5)

There are no valves in the EDG Cooling System.

e Enclosure Sarial No. 164 IEB 83-03 NORTH ANNA POWER STATION The following information is being submitted as required by IEB 83-03, Item 1.

North Anna Power Station does not use a raw water cooling system for the purpose of diesel generator cooling.

An air to water cooling system is used, the water system being a closed loop.

Mission Duo-Chek insert check valves are incorporated into this design and to date no check valve failures have occurred. Due to the fact that no swing check valves are used in the cooling system of the North Anna diesel generators and check valves in use have exhibited no failures, the requirements of IEB 83-03 do not apply.
