" AUTOMATIC TRIP OF REACTOR COOLANT PUMPS" FILE 0926.2 SERIAL 21612 The purpose of this letter is to acknowledge receipt of the subject Generic -

Letter 83-10 concerning reactor coolant pump (RCP) trip and to inform you of our intent to submit our plans and schedule by July 1, 1983. This delay is requested to allw time for evaluation of our position based on previous analyses that have been performed over the past several years relative to SECY 82-475, Generic Letter 83-10, and recently available experimental data.

Our draft Emergency Operating Procedures will use the RCP trip criteria provided in our Abnormal Transient Operating Guidelines (ATOG) unless better criteria are subsequently defined. RCP trip is currently based on a low RC pressure ESFAS signal or loss of subcooling margin.

It is our intent to reference a generic submittal, as members of the B&W Owners Group, which provides the tec hnical justification for treatment of reactor coolant pumps during accidests and transients.
