Gentlemen:

The Georgia Power Company wishes to submit the following information concerning the violations discussed in your inspection report 50-424/82-29 and 50-425/82-29.

The requirements for protection of equipment specified in the procedure inadequately defined protection criteria. The equipment was not monitored suffici ntly to take prompt action to resolve discrepancies and make improve-ments ca storage conditions.

The equipment program was re-evaluated, procedure GD-T-09 was revised to include more frequent inspections, and desk instructions were revised to delineate the inspection, protection, and cleanliness criteria. The equipment was promptly cleaned, inspected, and protection provided where required. Torn and loose plastic coverings were replaced. Openings were closed to prevent rodent entry. Areas around the equipment were cle6ned.

The following corrective steps were taken to avoid further violations:

- revised procedure GD-T-09, assigned independent maintenance crews to perform continuous maintenance, assigned engineers for surveillance and evaluation of equipment,

- instituted weekly inspection of equipment for housekeeping and general maintenance, and

- created an awareness in craft personnel to protect, maintain, and keep equipment and areas clean.

Full compliance will be achieved by March 1, 1983.
