This letter constitutes an interim report concerning the subject condition, initially reported to the Commission on November 9, 1982 as a potentially reportable deficiency under 10CFR50.55(e).
Our previous report, QA-2250, dated February 4, 1983, stated that requalification of small bore pipe bending operations would be conducted by February 28, 1983. This effort required the ware-house to issue several pieces of essential pipe. CG&E requested permission to perform this activity from the NRC site representatives through Construction Work Authorization Request (CWAR) #71; however, this request was turned down.
LG&E is presently seeking an appeal to Region III.
It is not possible to predict, if or when, this request will eventually be approved. A follow-up report will be submitted by May 31, 1983.
