SUBJECT:

Waterford SES Unit No. 3 Docket No. 50-382 Potentially Reportable Deficiency No. 99 "M gnetrol Model LDN Level Switches-Design Deficiency" Final Report

REFERENCE:

Telecon from M. A. Livesay to W. A. Crossman on January 28, 1983

Dear Mr. Collins:

On January 28, 1983 a problem with Magnetrol International, Inc. liquid level switches was reported as Potentially Reportable Deficiency No. 99. Leakage through the nameplate rivet holes had been discovered on these type submersible style switches. This leakage could cause an electrical short and corrosion to the switch mechanism which could prevent the switch from operating.

After further investigation, it was determined that although the level switches have an I6C class code of N2S1, they are not class IE devices and are not required for safe shutdown of the plant. As a result, this condition has been determined to be not reportable.
