t that the vessels serve a standby purpose only and are not part of the active, fIowing, sodium or NaK systems during normal pl ant operations.
9.3.1 Sodium and NaK Receivino System 9.3.1.1 Design Basis This system provides the capability to receive and melt fresh, solidified sodium, delivered to the site in tank cars or drums, and transfer the sodium to primary and intermediate storage vessels.
System capacity is based on moltout and drain of an 80,000-lb capacity tank car in 16 hours1.851852e-4 days
0.00444 hours
2.645503e-5 weeks
6.088e-6 months
.
The syqtem receives and transfers to storage all NaK used in the plant.
l All fresh sodium and NaK will be filtered prior to storage.
Components used f or sodium transf er wil l not be used f or NaK transf er.
The system also provides the capabil ity to renove sodium and NaK f rom plant systems for of f-site disposal.
9.3.1.2 Design Descriotion ThIs system consists of a tank car ofI heating station for neltcut of sodium tank cars, a clan shell heater for melting drums of sodium, transfer piping and valves, and f ilters f or cleanup of fresh sodium or NaK. The piping and filters f or the NaK are on a portable rig, and independent of the sodium system.
Both systems are shown on Figure 9.3-1.
Transf er of sodium and NaK to system storage vessels is by gravity flow.
9.3.1.3 Design Evaluation The Sodium and NaK Receiving System components are designed to accepted industrial and nuclear standards to insure structural integrity and f
operational reliability. The components, appl ica',1e design code and ciass, plus their seismic category are listed in Table 9.3-1.
