Dear Sir:
Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (TMI-1)
Operating License No. DPR-50 Docket No. 50-289 Non-Safety Related Maintenance Evaluation The ASLB Partial Initial Decision of August 27, 1981 on Procedural Background and Management Issues, pages 183 and 184, paragraph 319 requires that the Licensee should consider revising the maintenance job ticket safety evaluation to consider the potential for work on a non-QC component to have an effect on nuclear safety.
GPU has issued revision 9 to corrective maintenance procedure FT 1407-1 to address this concern. Section 7.3 of the procedure states:
"For non-important to safety items (NITS) a determination must be made whether the work has an effect on nuclear safety.
If yes, a procedure must be utilized.
If no, the Corrective Maintenance Manager (or designee) must concur."
These procedural requirements fulfill the intent of the PID condition which may now be certified by the NRC Staff as complete.
Sincerely, L
