QA-2074 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region III 799 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellyn, Illinois 60137 Attention: Mr. J. G. Keppler Regional Administrator RE: WM. H. ZIMMER NUCLEAR POWER STATION UNIT I 10CFR50.55(e), ITEM S-2 LAMINATING 0F STRUCTURAL STEEL, DOCKET N0. 50-358, CONSTRUCTION PERMIT NO. CPPR-88, W. O.

  1. 57300, JOB E-5590, FILE N0. NRC-9, S-2 Gentlemen:

This letter constitutes our final report concerning the subject condition.

As stated in our previous report, QA-1975, dated September 14, 1982, Henry J. Kaiser Company (HJK) would ultrasonically test all A-36,1" x 9" plate of heat #802P54610 located in the warehouse and hanger fabrication shop. This test was required per the disposition of HJK NR #E-8369, which identified an edge lamination detected when a plate was being cut in the hanger fabrication shop to be used in safety related supports.

The examination of the plate has been completed and the results indicate that no unacceptable indications were identified in accordance with the requirements of AWS D.l.1-72 for ultrasonic examination. The lamination noted on the NR was rejected using AWS D.l.1-72 criteria for visual inspection, however, it was acceptable by ultrasonic examination requirements.

On this basis, this condition is not considered reportable as the deficiency, if uncorrected, would not adversely affect the safety of operations of the plant during expected lifetime.
