SUBJECT:

Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station Docket No. 50/395 Operating License No. NPF-12 Special Report per Technical Specification 6.9.2

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

This Special Report is being submitted as a followup to a Special Report dated April 15, 1983, regarding entry into the Action Statement of Technical Specification 3.7.10, " Fire Rated Assemblies," on March 17, 1983.

As stated in this initial report, Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station began a plant outage to perform the required D-3. Steam Generator modifications.

In conjunction with this, a number of other modifications were undertaken, some of which required the removal from service of certain fire barriers.

Attached is a listing by room number of the areas affected during various modifications that were out of service longer than the specified seven (7) days.

Also listed is the completion date for each area.

Restoration to service of the affected fire rated assemblies was accomplished through an inspection performed by the Quality Control group on site.

l During the time the fire rated assemblies were out of service, a one (1) hour fire watch patrol was in effect for these areas pursuant with the requirements of Technical Specification 3.7.10, l

Action Statement (a).

Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station entered Mode 4 on May 17, 1983, and as stated in our initial report, we are submitting this report to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission within ten (10) days following the entry into Mode 4.
