Harry Tauber og and Construct.on Detroit Edison Et?FdF"32-Ochimr 1,1982 EF2 - 60,015 Mr. H. R. Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C. 20555

Dear Mr. Denton:

Reference:

Enrico Fermi Atomic Power Plant, Unit 2 NRC Docket No. 50-341

Subject:

Fermi 2 Schedule On August 24 through 26 the NRC Caseload Forecast Panel visited the Fermi 2 site to assess the Fermi 2 construction schedule.

Based on those discussions and based also on Detroit Edison's most recent detailed analysis of the fuel loading schedule, the following points were made and agreed upon.

1. Detroit Edison is devoting resources and working toward a fuel load date of June 13, 1983 which is presently projected by the ecmpany to be 7 weeks late.

Unless further improvements are made in the present projection, a fuel load date of approxima-tely August 1, 1983 would result.

2. Detroit Edison will report to the NRC any signifi-cant improvements or further delays in the fuel load schedule.
3. At this time, the NRC assumes a fuel load date of February 1984, thereby resulting in a six-month difference between their estimate and that of Detroit Edison.
4. For its purposes, the NRC will report Detroit Edison's projected Fermi 2 fuel load date and will footnote such reporting by referencing this letter and noting that Detroit Edison is taking steps to l

try to further reduce the negativity in the pro-jected schedule.

5. It is our underste.nding that the NRC will continue its review-of Fermi 2 and will not re-allocate its resources in a manner that would delay Detroit Edison's licensing efforts.

We very much appreciate our meeting with your Staff concerning this matter.

Si n c.' rely,
