APPLICANTS' REQUEST FOR EXTENSION OF TIME TO ANSWER INTERVENORS' MOTION FOR
SUMMARY
DISPOSITION OF CONTENTION NUMBER 1 On May 12, 1983, intervenor Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) filed, on its own behalf and on behalf of the other intervenors in this proceeding, & document entitled "Intervenors' Motion for Summary Disposition of Contention 1" (Intervenors' Motion).
Pursuant to 10 CFR 2.749(a), the deadline by which Applicants and the other parties to this proceeding may answer Intervenors' Motion is June 6, 1983.
Pursuant to 10 CFR 2.711(a), Applicants hereby request that the deadline for Applicants and all other parties to answer Intervenors' Motion be extended to September 30, 1983.
As good cause.for this request, reference is made to the fact that Applicants are currently considering the implications of the final Northwest Conservation and Electric Power Plan and the licensing alternatives now open to them with respect to the A

- V Skagit/Hanford Nuclear Project, as further explained in the enclosed letter dated May 25, 1983, from Applicants' attorneys to Board Chairman Wolf and Council Chairman Lewis.
As there stated, one of the alternatives under consideration is a de-cision to terminate all further licensing efforts with respect to S/HNP.
Applicants are reasonably confident that they can come to a decision by mid-September of this year as to which licensing alternative they wish to pursue.
Since a decision to terminate licensing would render Intervenors' Motion moot, the requested extension seems appropriate.
DATED May 25, 1983.
Respectfully submitted, PERKINS, COIE, STONE, OLSEN &
