LER 82-34, Unit 2 Deer Mr. Maynes This letter is to confirm our verbal notification of your Mr. Raich Architzet of the discovery that both service water heat exchangers were inoperable due to a loss of salt water.
At 1307 on July 20,1982 with Unit 2 in Mode 1. the service water heat exchanters con 4ined salt water outlet valve 2-5W-197 failed shut resulting in a loss of salt water to both the service water heat exchangers (T.S. 3.7.4.11. A power decrease was initiated until salt water flow was reestablithed to the service water heat exchansers at 1330, thus terminating the event.
A comotete description of this event and further corrective actions will be addrM in the follow-up report.
