This letter constitutes our report concerning the subject defect origi-nally reported by Mr. B. R. Sylvia of CG6E to Mr. T. P. Gwynn of the NRC under the requirements of 10CFR21.
On April 12, 1982, llenry J. Kaiser Company, principal constructor of the Zimmer Station, informed the Quality Assurance Department of CC&E of a possibly reportabic defect in 3x3x A-36 Angle Iron, manufactured by Northwestern Steel
& Wire Company. Laminations of approximately 1/8" in depth and 1/32" wide were observed in 260 ft. of material from heat #66221.
Ini-tal indications reveal that this defect is isolated to
!,e above re-ferenced heat. At this time, the constructor and vendor are investigating this matter. The constructor is in the process of accounting for all material of this heat to assure that it is removed from the plant and properly segregated.
A final report concerning this defect will be issued by May 31, 1982.
We trust the above will be found acceptable as an interim report under 10CFR21.
