Subject:
10 CFR 21 Notification Gentlemen:
This report is to confirm a Part 21 notification made verbally by myself on May 13, 1983 to Mr. Lauden of your Division of Emergency Preparedness.
The basic components requiring notification are bolting parts for ASME III NF Class 1 pipe supports, as furnished on rigid struts, or on pipe clamps for struts or snubbers.
For Comanche Peak Plant (TUSI) a total of 11 Class 1 supports, and 2 struts not assigned to a specific support are affected.
For South Texas Project (HL&P) a total of 2 Class 1 supports are affected.
The products were supplied to these sites by our Austin, Texas Plant. The defect is that the bolting parts greater than 2 inch size require but did not receive MT or PT examination.
The lack of required NDE was revealed durinq an internal QA audit at the Austin Plant. This was followed by an investigation to determine the affected products and facilities, for which a final determination was made on May 12, 1983. Noti-fication to the affected facilities was made immediately following the verbal notification to you, and written confirmations are being issued which identify the affected supports by Mark Number.
It is our intention to supply replacement bolting materials with the proper NDE for the affected parts, and to ship these to the facilities no later than June 30, 1983.
Sincerely, 8305240356 830516 '
