Upgrading of Reactor Vessel Overpressure Protection System Gentlemen:

In our November 23, 1977 sutmittal concerning the Reactor Vessel Overpressure Protection System,wh'.ch is presently installed and utilized at the Beaver Valley Power Station, we stated that the present system should be categorized as an interim system.

This categorization was due to the fact that the relief valves inatalled in the nitrogen supply lines did not possess the required seismic certification.

We have now been informed by the valve supplier that the existing valves have been qualified by testing to the seismic design requirements of the Beaver Valley Power Station. We have, therefore, upgraded the status of the present system from an interim system and consider the existing system to be the long term, permanent modification.

Very truly yours, C. N. Dunn Vice President, Ope rations 0
