the Southe.8 elKfrC SYSlem March 4,1983 Docket Nos. 50-348 50-364 Director, Nuclear Reactor Regulation U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C.

20555 Attention:

Mr. S. A. Varga Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant - Units 1 and 2 Boron Concentration Reduction in the Boron Injection Tank Alabama Power Company, by letter of December 30, 1982, requested approval of technical specification changes to reduce the boron concen-tration in the boron injection tanks (BIT) at the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant - Units 1 and 2.

Approval was requested by March 31, 1983 to support the planning and scheduling for the Unit 1 Cycle 5 restart.

Due to schedular improvements achieved during the upflow modification work, entry to Mode 3 (the time at which the current Technical Specifi-cations require the BIT to be operational) is now scheduled for March 20, 1983.

It is therefore requested that NRC approval be advanced to March 18, 1983 to support the Unit 1 Cycle 5 restart.
