Attachment C WASHINGTON PUBLIC POWER SUPPLY SYSTEM NUCLEAR PROJECT NO. 2 DOCKET NO. 50-397 LICENSE NO. CPPR-93 10CFR50.55(e) CONDITION #232 LPCS AND RHR SUPPORT PIN RECEPTABLES INTERIM REPORT Description of Deficiency The LPCS and RHR pumps may have been installed without the lower support pin receptacles installed. The support pin receptacles are intended to prevent overstress conditions during a scismic event.

Safety Implication The LPCS and RHR pumps are required for normal and emergency safe shutdown of the reactor. The absence of the support pin receptacle could impose operating conditions on the equipment outside design parameters. This could jeopardize the ability of the equipment to function as described in the WNP-2 FSAR.

Corrective Action The pumps have been turned over and operated by Supply System Test and Start-up for flushing the piping systems. The Run in tests did not indicate any operational problem. The Project subsequently determined, via the use of fiberoptics, that the lower support pin receptacles are not installed as required by existing General Electric design docisments.

The Architect En'gineer and General Electric are reviewing alternatives other than complete pump removal to effect pin receptacle installation. General ,

Electric has indicated that reanalysis of the pumps for seismic and opera-tional conditions without the receptacles installed may show it to be un-necessary in this specific case. The Architect Engineer is also developing alternative methods of achieving equivalent support for the pumps by other means.
