Dear Mr. Denton:
The following documentation of the results of the preservice examination for McGuire Unit 2 was requested by Mr. A. Ignatonis and Mr. N. Economos of NRC/ Region II in a telecon with Mr. N. A. Rutherford of Duke Power Company on February 16, 1983. A summary of the preservice examination of the Unit 2 steam generators was submitted i
by my letter to you dated January 18, 1983.
The preservice inspection of McGuire Unit 2 has been completed with the following exceptions:
(1) Reportable indications found on two reactor vessel closure nuts are being evaluated. Corrective action will be completed and the nuts will be reinspected prior to use.
(2) Modifications to several Class 1 and Class 2 items, including valves, hangers, and piping are currently being performed. All items will be inspected when the modifications are completed.
Volumetric examinations performed during the McGuire 2 preservice inspection revealed no rejectable indications. Several code rejectable conditions were found by surface NDE methods. All have been repaired, reinspected, and found acceptable except as stated in Item 1 above.
Duke Power has submitted requests for relief for those cases where we were unable to meet all ASME code requirements in performing the preservice inspection of McGuire Unit 2.

January 19, 1983.
