SUBJECT:

Fort St. Vrain CRDM Temperatures

REFERENCE:

NRC letter dated December 2,1982 Clark to Lee

Dear Mr. Collins:

Public Service Company of Colorado (PSC) has made a preliminary review of the referenced letter which requested a commitment to limit maximum Control Rod Drive Mechanism (CRDM) temperatures to 215 F and orifice valve position to a minimum open position of 40%.

Our preliminary review indicates that there does not appear to be a sound basis for these temperature and orifice valve position commitments.

Our preliminary review of the request for comitment appears to be

' negative; however, we request an extension to review this matter in depth.

PSC is now evaluating the report in detail and will submit our response by April 15, 1983.

Sircerely, a

SWW
